Homematch for Florine Bramervaer

The Open Dutch Sailing Championships takes place from 14 to 16 September at the Sailing Center Medemblik. 15 different classes will battle for the National title. With them Florine Bramervaer from Medemblik in the 4e9erFX.

The 49erFX is a two-handed skiff-type high-performance sailing dinghy. Both of the crew are equipped with their own trapeze and sailing is handled while "flying". Florine started sailing when she was seven years old. She started to learn in the Optimist, a one person youth boat. After this she sailed the Laser 4.7 before she switched to two person dinghy's. The past year she has sailed the Nacra 15, a catamaran. And since three months she sails the 49erFX.

"Since three months I'm in the TZAK (Top sailing academy introduction). This week school has started again. So time for me to start focussing on my studies. But the past summer I've mostly been sailing. The TZAK is an introduction, after that you get the change to go through to the Top Sail Academy. Somewhere in the next days I'll hear if I'm part of this selection. I've worked hard for it and showed I really want it." Bramervaer recently came back from the Youth World Chapionships in Marseille, she didn't get the result she hoped for. But she did learn a lot, and that's just as important.

"I'm quite independence, since February I live in Medemblik with my parents. But before that I've been in Australia for 6 months. I've taken a year of school after I graduated. In Australia I've mostly sailed while I stayed with family and sailing friends. Mostly sailed Nacra 15 and a bit in the 49erFX over there. After a shoulder injury I had to rest for 6 weeks. Back in the Netherlands I've tried to make it to the Youth Olympic Games in the Nacra 15. Unfortunately I didn't make that, after that I've been sailing in the 49erFX." Since that, she has sailed one other event in the Nacra 15, the European Championships at Lake Como in Italy. "By being there most of my time and working hard, I really hope I make it through the selection for the Top Sail Academy."
